50 years, 4 national awards, 19 Filmfare awards and 3 Nandi awards punctuate his illustrious career.

Kamal Haasan is brand and a name to reckon with in Indian cinema. Winning a national award as a child, Kamal Haasan was destined for glory. A perfectionist in every sense, Kamal has managed to carve a niche in every department in film making. Starting his career as a child artist and a national award winner, he went on to become a master writer and director while constantly taking his acting a notch up with every film.

Awards have followed him ever since he apprenticed under K Balachander, with the most notable being the prestigious Padma Shri in the year 1990. Kamal Haasan was also recognised by the Time Magazine for his exploits in the gangster saga ’Nayagan’, which was based on the classic ’The Godfather’. He has played a communist, a ventriloquist, a psychotic man, a Bharathanatyam dancer and a sympathetic don among many other memorable roles through out his career.

Kamal Haasan has also proved that he cares for the society by converting his fan clubs into welfare associations. The actor has proved his expertise in areas of make up, not to mention his prowess as a lyricist and singer.

As a mark of recognition of 50 years of contribution to cinema, the Directorate of Film Festivals is organizing a three day film festival called ’Retrospective of Kamal Haasan films’, which aims to showcase the best films from his filmography.

This film festival will be inaugurated and presided over by honorouble Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Ambika Soni and Kamal Haasan would be the guest of honour.

The festival, that aims to showcase the best films of this actor par excellence, starts on July 2, 2010 at Sirifort Auditorium II.

His die hard fans have one more reason to rejoice since the entry is free. (CHIT)
