Veteran singer Malaysia Vasudevan passed away yesterday afternoon at a private hospital in Chennai. He breathed his last when he was 67. He was admitted last week due to cardiac problems. The singer is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

Malaysia Vasudevan crooned over 8,000 songs in Tamil and sung close to 4,000 songs in different languages. He worked with many top music directors like MS Viswanathan, Ilaiyaraja, Shankar-Ganesh, AR Rahman etc. He lent his voice for most of the actors in Tamil film industry.

He started his singing career with Delhi to Madras. But it was 'Attukutti Muttaittu' from Kamal Hassan starrer 16 Vayithinile, which brought him under limelight. He forayed into acting with Oru Kaithiyin Diary and went on to act in 85 films in Kollywood.

Actor Kamal Hassan, Ilaiyaraja, Rajinikanth and many noted names from the Tamil film industry have paid tribute to Malaysia Vasudevan. A few celebrities expressed their grief on Twitter.

Director Venkat Prabhu tweeted, “Our uncle singer Malaysia Vasudevan passed away!!! RIP vasu uncle!!! Love u .”

Actor Siddharth tweeted, “RIP Malaysia Vasudevan. So many great songs. A legacy lives on... ”.
